Cryotherapy

Cryosurgery has been used to treat skin lesions for approximately 100 years. The first Cryogens were liquid air and compressed carbon dioxide snow. Liquid Nitrogen became available in 1940s and currently is the most widely used Cryogen.

Cryotherapy is a procedure that uses extrme cold (liquid nitrogen @ -196*F) to destroy tissue. Its often used to treat skin lesions, which are skin growths or patches that don’t look like the skin around them. The lesions could be Benign (Not cancerous)/Actinic keratoses (Precancerous skin cancer) .

Clinical conditions that can be treated by Cryotherapy:

-Seborroeic Keratoses

-Warts esp- Palmoplantar, Subungual, Perianal.

-Small tumors of the face.

-Keloids – Pre intralesional Inj. Kenacort and intrakeloidal inj in earlobe keloids.

-Hypertrophic scar.

-Pyogenic granuloma.

-Dermatofibroma.

AFTER CRYOTHERAPY –

-The treated area will become red soon after your procedure. It may also blister and swell. If this happens, don’t break open the blister.

-You may also see clear drainage on the treated area. This is normal.

-The treated area will heal in about 7-10 days. It doesn’t leave behind any scar.
